Music Midsommer Quilting, Radstock As any customers of my favourite British quilt shop know, Chris, Brigitta and De hold an annual challenge for their customers, asking them to create a small 12” x 12” quilt on a given theme. The quilts are displayed at a fabulous exhibition in the shop during November / December and then auctioned to raise money in support of Dorothy House Hospice Previous challenges have been on the subject of fruit, books, movies and for this year….Music If you have not seen any of the previous quilts then make yourself a cup of tea or coffee and settle down and take a look. Click on the red words above to see a gallery of each of the previous years' fantastic entries. ******************************* As a break from another challenge quilt I am working on I decided to let my mind wander and see what I might do for this year’s challenge. I got out my pencil and my sketchbook and started to doodle. Whenever I first start to think of a quilt this is the way I usually start. I thought I would share what I have come up with so far! You can see, it really is just doodle at this stage, but already I have too many ideas I want to explore and think about. I like the idea of close-ups on instruments and musical notation. I was thinking of Elvis and the Beetles too, but I think they may turn out to be a popular subjects, so I may steer away from those, unless something really cool comes into my mind. Then I started to think of Musicals..... 'Cats', the dreaded 'Sound of Music', 'Joseph'..... lots to think of here, and then on to classical music – silhouettes of Beethoven, Bach, Mozart ... Orchestras and a crazy conductor ... Or how about the different genres of music? Jazzzzzzzz, Rock ‘n Roll, Punk.... Do, Ray Me... (back to the Sound of Music again)..... How about Gramophones, vinyl records, tapes, CD’s juke boxes, iPods, the zombies who walk about with their enormous headphones, Ghettoblasters on your shoulder.... So much to think about, but luckily there is time - well, until about November. I can't wait to see what everybody makes - It is going to be 'The best yet' as Chris will surely say!

I googled styles of music so many came up spoilt for choice so choose 4 and made into one 12x12, may do another if get time to do it. Hi Spike :-) I know what you mean - there is so much scope with this subject. Looking forward to seeing yours when it is finished. I saw some parts of it at the shop when you were working on it, and it looked great! I have made 2,a piece of a guitar, and an ice-cream! Hopefully everyone will 'get it' when they see it. x Comments are closed.
