If I say 'salt' - what is the first thing you think of ?
I used to think 'white stuff', but now things have changed!
I have been researching my next quilt 'Salt' for a week or so now and need to thank Liz, a quilting friend, who kindly emailed me last week to recommend a great book that she thought I might like. That is it up above. It is a brilliant read - both interesting and fascinating and hard to put down; I recommend it too. Who would have thought salt could be so interesting? Thanks a million Liz.
To give you a flavour of some of the things I have discovered there is an interesting slide show on the British Maldon Salt website which sumarises some interesting salty facts if you are interested. Click on their logo below to visit their site.
Of the great many things I have discovered about salt is there is one fundamental that underpins everything. Just like sulfur, salt is also essential for life. Put simply, without it living things die and because of this it has proven to be supremely valuable to man. Wars have been fought, empires created and destroyed, all because of salt - and yet to us now it is a commodity of such little interest you are quite possibly wondering what the big deal is.
